Bottling the 2008 Vintage

Bottling the 2008 Vintage

Saturday, October 02, 2010

In August we bottled the wine that was harvested in 2008. For days we moved to the rhythm of clinking bottles.

Industrial bottling equipment with a forklift operator and stacked metal bottle crates in a warehouse setting.

First the bottles arrive as do the metal boxes in which the wine will be stored.

Stacks of metal wire crates outside a stone building, used for storing and transporting wine bottles during the bottling process.

Once the bottling machine is set up, the empty bottles are loaded in at one side.

On the other side the full bottles are placed in to metal boxes.

A worker in a cap placing filled wine bottles into metal storage crates on the bottling line, showing the completion side of the process.

Each metal box of 600 bottles is then wrapped in plastic and stored.

Some chateaux contract this work in, but we feel it is important to control all aspects of the wine we produce. Once the wine is ordered we add the labels and capsules.

It gives the crew a great sense of completion to see the wine all through the cycle.
