Here at Plaisance we have had the joy of meeting some truly special people.
One of our neighbors came by to show us his collection of wine labels from the area. He always has his little dog with him. He has worked in the vines here all his life and enjoys seeing what we are up to. His smile and warmth make my day.
Saturday, one of our tractors went into the ditch.
The driver walked away with only a few cuts from the shattered door. The trench along the road was invisible due to long grass.
Complete strangers (François & Annie) stopped and helped us. They said the highway dept has only one grass cutter to keep the ditches clear and that at this stage no one can see the edges. They took hours out of their day and brought in another neighbor (Philippe) to pull us out. After a lot of strenuous effort we were back in working order. I promised our new friends, Annie, Francois, and Philippe, a visit next week.
Another example of an extremely generous person is Jean Claude.
During the harvest last year we had situation arise, so I went to his home at 8 am with three questions. Before he even knew what the questions were, he said the answer to all three is “yes”. I explained that one of our workers would not be able to work, so he immediately took his bread and cheese jumped into his tractor and worked every day for almost two weeks. He wanted nothing in return.
These are individuals that are the salt of the earth. The very backbone of what makes a community work. These beautiful people are to be commended for unselfishly being willing and able share of themselves. We are thankful.
