Growth of the Vines

Growth of the Vines

The rapid growth of the vines within the last 30 days is quite incredible. This photo was taken on the 15th of April. The buds were just showing the first glimpse of leaves.

By the 25th of April the first leaves were showing well.

Close-up of a grapevine cane showing early spring growth with small green shoots emerging from the dormant wood.

Yesterday, the 15th of May, I took this photo of the same vine.

A grapevine with fully developed green leaves and multiple shoots showing vigorous spring growth.

The view overlooking the vines is breath-taking.

Panoramic view of vineyard rows with lush green vines stretching across rolling countryside under a partly cloudy sky.

We have been removing all the extra growth so that only 5 shoots remain on the cane and 2 remain on the opposite side of the trunk of the vine. This is done manually and I am fortunate to have the loan of this little cart from our closest neighbor. Here I am getting to know each vine and pruning out the excess shoots.

It will be 2010 when I can taste the results of the labor done this week. Hopefully my body will have recovered.
