Hand Harvest 2009

We began the harvest Tuesday Sept. 28th, a cool crisp morning, with much enthusiasm. Thierry has been with Chateau Plaisance for more than 11 years. He is energetic and hard working.A vineyard worker with a smile is hand-harvesting a bunch of dark purple grapes from the vine.

Jasmin has been with us for over 22 years, very dedicated to the vines. He is shown here pouring his hand cut bunches. For Bastien, it is his first harvest. Two vineyard workers, one pouring grapes from a container while another watches, with harvest equipment and buildings in the background.

The merlot is the first to come in. The cabernets will be the last to be brought in. Each bunch is chosen individually and examined for the slightest imperfection. What a sight to see it all begin and be a part of this exceptional year.Several red plastic harvest baskets filled with dark purple grapes sitting on the ground, showing the day's hand-picked harvest.Once they are loaded onto to the tractor, it is a short trip to the chateau.Multiple white plastic sorting bins filled with dark purple grapes arranged in a grid pattern, showing the organized harvest process.

Now we remove the stems and begin sorting the grapes. The weather is with us, no rush, so we can bring in each field only when it reaches perfect ripeness. A blonde woman in a white tank top smiling while sorting dark grapes on a sorting table outside a building.I just love working the harvest.
