This past Thursday we were informed that the wood chipper would be ready for us to use on Friday April 16th. Our crew of seasonal workers had already done a full weeks work and were anticipating to have Friday off. I asked them if they would work another full day since the machine was arriving and we had 50 more rows of wood to pull in our Bordeaux superior vines. All of them came and we did it. A heart felt “thanks” to each of them individually.
Here we are at 8 am beginning one of the many rows.
Each worker pulls the pruned wood from the 2 lines. In this photo you can see three workers doing 6 rows.
We keep our bodies in motion and get a full work out.
Here is Bahijah, our newest worker.
Sanna is the one with the biggest smile and loves to sing.
Now the rows are done.
Our senior worker arrives in the tractor to chip the wood into sawdust.
Finally the crew can be off until Monday.
At the moment our workers represent 5 different nationalities. Despite the many languages we get the jobs done without any problems. Each person is important and appreciated. We relish our uniqueness and strive for one goal, for us the end result is great wine.
