Ripening Continues

The grapes are turning deep, deep purple.

A close-up of a mature bunch of deep purple grapes hanging on the vine, ready for harvest.

They have been pruned down to 6 evenly spaced bunches per vine.

The seeds are still green and the sugar content indicates that harvest may be the first week in October. We will see.

On a different note, our sales room is receiving several more walk in clients as the harvest approaches.

The tourists are visiting vineyards and enjoying the fields as they are showing their true colors. Our sales room adjoins our barrel cellar.

The smell of the new oak barrels is in the air as people choose which of our wines to purchase. Some of the old cement vats, which we no longer use, have been opened to store wine, while others were left for the ambience and to show the history of the wine. I personally enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and sharing our vineyard with them.

Yesterday the latest “The Hachette Guide to French Wines” (“Guide Hachette des Vins de France“) became available. Our 2005 Saint Emilion Grand Cru and our 2005 Bordeaux Superior have been selected. I will give you the translation of their reviews in the next blog.

Every autumn the publication of the annual “Guide Hachette des Vins de France' is released. It is something which winemakers and merchants await with interest. It is in many ways something of a bible as far as French wines are concerned, being a description and rating of some of the best wines from across France, selected at blind tastings.

We are thankful to receive this accolade and privileged to live and grow within this unique vineyard.
